I can think of better things to spend my hard-earned cash on, a $10,000 bag? But, it was fun watching the craftsmanship involved in Hermes' products. I have purchased many a bottle of Hermes parfum over the years. Now, that's worth every penny!

in some country, yes 4-5 yrs,esp those of the calf leather...croc birkin maybe less than that...n the price increased every year...so u will pay the price upon its arrival with the current year price

I absolutley love the birkin bag. It really is a beautiful bag but i would never buy one for myself. I have also heard that the Hermes birkin bag is on a 5 year waiting list and the price range is $8,000-$192,000 so its a little ridiculous. but i love it!

I only waited 5 months for my Black 40, the waiting list is more of a myth now, because it's not 5 years anymore, unless you're ordering say Croc,Gator,Stingray.. the exotics.

The craftsmanship is truly amazing, but I guarantee people are paying most of that money for the name on the bag. There are craftsman all over the world, individual people, using the same techniques and resulting in the same, or better quality, that don't get a tenth of that kind of money. Why isn't their product worth as much? It's not the quality or the style, it's the name. Then again, when has anyone able to pay that much for a bag cared about anything but status symbols anyway?

wow. seems in australia they raise crocodiles to simply skin for sale.. and so many plies of croc skin in the hermes factory.. though, hermes bags simply has the parisian feeling/appearance with colors you feel in a quiet place and early afternoon.

and the other thing is, not to forget, a celebrity, or a wealthy person can not put on the same evening / coctail dress in one season or in one year. but she/he can carry his/her Hermes bag all day, from morning to evening. FYI, there is no "wait list" for Hermes Birkins or Kellys. Simply spend $5,000-30,000 in the boutique and then casually ask if they might have one in your favorite colour. Et voila, out they come from the basement! Yes, it is sleazy, but such is the way of the ultra-high-end retail outlet. The author of "Bringing Home The Birkin" was absolutely right; money talks, as usual, whether we like it or not. Cheers!
